Creating Inclusive Corporate Events for In-Person, Hybrid, and Remote Teams

Organizing inclusive events at your company will require you to take into account the diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives of all team members. What is often overlooked is ensuring that your hybrid/remote employees get the same support and opportunities as on-site employees.

Being in alignment with your diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments also applies to the speakers, facilitators, trainers, organizers, and emcees you choose for your next event.

Take into account what voices aren’t included in leadership and ditch the vague topics that don’t foster employee connection, promote growth, and keep a pulse on what’s working (or not).

Fireside Chat at Gensler for Women’s Equal Pay Day

The co-leaders of Gensler’s women’s affinity group in the Northwest Region, Successful Women At Gensler (SWAG), reached out to Real You Leadership to plan a special event in March for Women’s History Month.

As their first in-person and hybrid event for their affinity group since the pandemic, they wanted to partner with us to empower the women and allies in their work communities to support themselves and each other in advancing their careers.

They looked over a list of our available workshop topics and event options and weren’t sure if they wanted a workshop or a fireside chat for their group event. There’s not a one-size-fits-all solution to support your diverse teams, and based on our initial conversation, they moved forward with a fireside chat on Women’s Equal Pay Day.

Gensler invited us to their San Francisco office to utilize their robust hybrid setup. We hosted this fireside chat in person for flexibility and ease for those in the local office and live-streamed to their global remote teams in the Northwest Region in the U.S. and Canada.

This fireside chat option came with a 10-minute presentation to ground in the topic at hand and a moderated conversation and Q&A with Real You Leadership.

To highlight Women’s Equal Pay Day, Gensler’s SWAG leaders chose to drive the fireside chat discussion around the pay and opportunity gaps women face, negotiation mindset, pay transparency, self-advocacy, and the importance of setting boundaries in our careers. These are genuinely the topics that light up our purpose and passion at Real You Leadership!

We also discussed what allyship truly looks like in closing the leadership and pay gap for all women, BIPOC, and multidimensional team members, and how we can all become more empowering, equitable, and inclusive leaders.

Before the event, we guided our partners to curate their questions based on the impact they wanted to make and the outcomes and takeaways they knew their Women’s affinity group needed. Our goal is to ignite the fireside chat with relevant content that makes your team feel seen and encourages them to participate.

There’s no need to guess what your attendees want to know and learn about in your next company event. We recommend you connect with your team to source questions, outcomes, and takeaways that would be meaningful for them.

Whether it’s a year-long custom program, quarterly workshop, or initial fireside chat, we always center the voices and lived experiences of multidimensional communities and identities. We do this by highlighting the nuances and differences they face navigating predominantly white, male industries and workspaces.

Getting feedback from multiple attendees across the West Coast in the U.S. and Canada, Real You Leadership and I are clear on why we do what we do, and the importance of bringing human-centered leadership training to every company and community that invests the time, money, and energy in partnering with us: to create safe and thriving workplaces for everyone.

External, independent voices must have candid conversations around the realities of your diverse teams, whether or not they are sharing it directly with your leadership and in your feedback channels.

We hold an equitable and inclusive space in each talk we host and work in unity with your company’s organizers to curate safe, open, and real conversations.

For fully remote events, virtual workshops, and panels, we always have a Real You Leadership team member available to send anonymous questions, hold a safe and confidential space for all participants, and support with real-time coaching and mentorship.

Our goal with each talk we facilitate is to bring a solid foundation for your team to continue conversations with curiosity and transparency.

Looking for ways to understand your employee’s priorities and experiences better and foster deeper team connection? Partner with us to co-create something that makes sure all your team members feel included and kept in mind.
